Baby Skin Care

Baby Skin Care is of natural concern to mothers.

A new baby has the softest and seemingly the most tender of skins, and it is normal that new mothers in particular are concerned with regard to caring for their baby's skin.

The old adage "Less is More" most certainly applies when it comes to skin care for your little one.

Young babies really don't  get very dirty and they don't need bathing every day.
In the first couple of months, babies only need to be bathed two or three times a week.
Bathing more frequently at this early stage can dry out your baby's skin.
Of course you clean up the diaper area and the odd food spill but other than that simply keep your newborn clean on days he or she won't be getting a bath by using a warm, damp washcloth on his or her face, hands, diaper area and neck.
This simple sponge bathing with a soft flannel or sponge will keep your baby clean and this, and gently drying with a soft towel is more than likely all the care your baby's skin will require.

A newborn babies skin can be very delicate and can be prone to all kinds of different issues and reactions.
Many of these are natural reactions to the environment in which the newborn finds itself, some are reactions to new foods, some to irritants in skin care products or clothing or even to products being worn by the mother.

Avoidance of products which contain perfumes and other irritants is essential and this makes it difficult to select products to use as part of your Baby Skin Care program.
Many parents choose to use organic - natural products but not all natural products are suitable for baby's skin. Things which are not harmful or irritating to an adult may be an irritant to a baby.

It is also worth considering that  the word "Natural" is a great way to effect our emotions.
Doesn't that provide us with feelings of security & confidence?
The term Natural indicates that it contains a natural substance -  however the product may still contain non-organic ingredients.  Even totally natural organic ingredients can (and often are) harmful in the wrong place and if used in the wrong way. It is the word "Natural" that is designed to be the focal point of the marketing  technique not the safety of using the product on the baby's skin. So be careful choosing natural- organic products for there are some people out there using not very ethical marketing techniques.

Keep a close lookout for irritation and other skin problems and seek qualified help if you are unsure what to do.
The first sign of irritation can be dry or red patches on the baby's skin and understanding that these symptoms may indicate that the detergent or Baby Skin Care product that you are using may be the cause of the irritation is a first step.

Your local pharmacist is probably the first place to look for some useful information and assistance. They can recommend products which are specifically designed for the most sensitive of skins.
Be careful seeking help from unqualified natural health practitioners and be very careful of information obtained online unless you can be absolutely sure of the source. (All of the "snake oil" and "wonder cure" peddlers of olden times have been reincarnated and are lurking online waiting for suckers to buy their wonder potions)

Another consideration when it comes to Baby Skin Care and Children's Skin Care is sun protection.
It is true that the sunlight has certain amount of vitamin D that is good for health, but that is not beneficial for the baby.
So, never leave the baby out in the sun, because that might cause sunburn and even skin cancer. Similarly covering and protecting your children from the sun is important.

When considering Baby Skin Care you should also extend your consideration to the cloths that baby is wearing and the detergents and products you are using to launder those cloths. Harsh chemical residues can be retained in clothing even though they have been thoroughly rinsed.
You should also consider the products used to wash your own cloths and the makeup, perfume etc that you wear as baby will come into close contact with these as you hold and play with baby.

The few months when baby's skin is smooth and soft is all too short and you should do all you can to ensure that you prolong this time as when baby begins crawling and walking their skin toughens up and you will miss that wonderful soft skin.

Be careful of receiving gifts of Skin Care products either from well meaning friends and especially from company promotions; double check that these have no perfumes of chemicals which are likely to be an irritant.

Bringing home your new baby is a wonderful and exciting time. It can also be very trying for new parents who aren't sure of what to do. These few tips on looking after bay's skin should help you soon become totally experienced with regard to Baby Skin Care.
